Walls people stop
and look at.Painted by hand.

I'm Kel Brown, a muralist and painter. I work with businesses, property owners, galleries and festivals to turn blank walls and empty rooms into something worth photographing — designed for your space, painted on site.

Tell me the wall, the timeline and the budget range — I reply personally by email.

Why people reach out

You have a wall that isn't doing anything for you.

Maybe it's the blank side of a building, a lobby that feels unfinished, a patio nobody photographs, or a space that looks like every other space on the block.

Most people don't hire a muralist because it feels complicated: what does it cost, how long does it take, who handles permits and prep, and what if the finished piece isn't what you pictured?

My job is to make that whole part boring — a clear sketch, a clear price, a clear schedule — so the only surprising part is the wall itself.

Commissions

Four ways people commission work.

01

Exterior murals

For Businesses, property owners, developers

Large-scale hand-painted work on brick, stucco, concrete or metal. Includes surface prep, exterior-grade paint and protective clear coat.

02

Interior feature walls

For Restaurants, cafés, offices, retail, homes

Painted directly on the wall and designed around your lighting, layout and brand — from full-wall statements to smaller accent moments.

03

Original paintings

For Galleries, collectors, hospitality projects

Commissioned canvas work at the size you need, whether it's one piece over a bar or a series for a lobby or show.

04

Festivals & live painting

For Art festivals, events, activations

On-site painting as part of your program, finished within the run of the event and built for photos and foot traffic.

Every commission includes

A site visit or photo review, a sketch and color direction to approve before any paint touches the wall, materials and prep, on-site painting, and clean handoff with photos you can use.

The difference

The design comes from your building, not a catalog.

I don't reuse designs. Before sketching, I look at how people actually move past the wall — where they park, where they stand, where the light hits at 4pm — and build the composition around that.

You see the sketch and palette before I start, and you get honest answers about scale, surface and cost instead of a vague quote.

About

I'm Kel Brown. I paint for a living, in Texas heat mostly.

I work between Houston and Austin and travel for the right project. Most of my work is large — walls, buildings, rooms — but I still paint on canvas, and both feed each other.

I like clients who care about their space and are honest about what they want. You don't need to know art terms or have a design ready. Send me a photo of the wall and we'll figure it out from there.

You can see current and past work on Instagram — it's the most up-to-date record of what I'm painting.

How it works

Three steps, no guesswork.

01

Send the details

Email me or use the form with a photo of the wall or space, rough dimensions, your timeline and a budget range.

02

Sketch and quote

I visit or review photos, then send a design direction, color palette and a flat quote covering materials, prep and paint days.

03

I paint it

Once you approve the sketch and deposit, I schedule the work, paint on site and hand back a finished, sealed wall plus photos.

Questions

Before you reach out.

What does a mural cost?+

It depends on size, surface, height and detail — a small interior wall and a three-story exterior are very different jobs. Send dimensions and a photo and you'll get a flat quote covering design, materials, prep and paint days, with no hourly surprises.

How long does it take?+

Most walls are painted in a few days to a couple of weeks on site, after sketch approval. Scheduling depends on the current queue and, for exteriors, on weather.

Do you travel outside Houston and Austin?+

Yes. Texas projects are easiest, but I take commissions across the US. Travel and lodging are quoted separately and shown clearly on the estimate.

What if I don't know what I want painted?+

That's normal and completely fine. Most clients start with a feeling, a color, or a photo they like. I turn that into a sketch and palette for you to react to before anything is painted.

Do I approve the design first?+

Always. Painting doesn't start until you've signed off on the sketch and colors. Small adjustments during that stage are expected and included.

Who handles permits, lifts and prep?+

I'll tell you exactly what's needed for your wall. Surface prep and standard equipment are part of the quote; if a permit, scaffolding or a lift rental is required, that's flagged up front rather than added later.

Will it hold up outside?+

Exterior work is painted with exterior-grade materials and finished with a protective clear coat made for sun and weather. I'll also tell you what to expect over time and how to maintain it.

Start here

Tell me about the wall.

A photo, rough size and your timeline is enough to start. I read every inquiry myself and usually reply within two business days — including a straight answer on whether your budget and the wall are a good match.
